Crafter, designer and director of The English Leather Rose Co.
I’ve always been passionate about crafting, and but it was while we lived aboard our narrowboat 'Faustroll' that I developed the original design for my leather roses. I've always loved the smell and feel of real leather and prior to living afloat I'd always grown roses. So it was just a small step to decide to combine my two passions and try to make a leather rose.
Although leather roses are a contemporary product, there is an echo of the ‘roses and castles’ tradition of the English canals, which prizes authenticity and manual skill. I didn’t intend to sell the roses – but passers by kept stopping to watch me work and it quickly became apparent that I had created something that people wanted to own and to give as gifts. With my husbands support I started "The English Leather Rose Co" in 2004.
Originally I focussed on making leather roses for gifts and I sold as many roses as I could make for Valentines day. But then my loyal Valentines couples got engaged and started asking if I could make leather roses for their wedding days. Of course I was flattered and up for the challenge! Those early weddings were a great success and I still treasure the photos.
I now have more than 10 years experience in creating leather roses for weddings, and I continually develop and update my range.I make everything to order and I enjoy working closely with each of 'my' brides, enabling them to have unique and individual roses for their special day. I love leather and can't help collecting! Whilst I specialise in making leather roses for alternative weddings and ceremonies, leather roses have a wide ranging appeal and provide a lasting reminder of a very special day for the years to come.
I live on a 67ft 'live-aboard' narrowboat called “Froth on the Daydream.” We are currently based in Northamptonshire, and your wedding roses will be made in my studio on board.
